Our Story

Fishers of Men for Veteran’s is a 501(c)3 organization that works with veterans in the White Mountains of Arizona and we network with the various veteran’s organizations throughout the State of Arizona .

Annually, a ‘Stand Down’ in August is held at Show Low City Gym. Some thirty-seven vendors should attended the event to guide and provide assistance to the Veterans in attendance. The Veterans will be provided with lunch, clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, hygiene items, give away items by the vendors, raffle items donated to the ministry, dog food, information on discounts for veterinary services and animal adoptions, as well as information on how to receive government benefits. We are very thankful for all of the vendors that give their time to come and join us each year.

The community has also come alongside the ministry in the donation of blankets, clothing, jackets, sleeping bags, tents and any items of need for a Veterans. The White Mountain Communities has been very generous in assisting this Ministry and we are very thankful for all they have done. After the recent Stand Down many of these resources were given out and supplies have been deleted. As winter’s cold temperatures are quickly arriving, we need to stock our shelves once again.

Fishers of Men for Veteran’s host a Community Coat Giveaway during the fall. Fishers of Men for Veterans gives back to the community by having a coat giveaway for the whole community, not only the veterans and family but the whole community. It’s our way of saying thank you for helping us to help our veterans in Apache and Navajo Country and to keep our community warm .Coats and jackets are not only for our Veteran’s, but for their entire family. Last year hundreds of Men’s, Women’s and Children’s jackets, scarves, gloves and hats were given away. After the giveaway, the items not used were given to another Ministry who distributed the remaining jackets to needy families all over the White Mountains.

Fishers of Men for Veteran’s Ministries also works alongside the TAPS program. Fishers of Men provides the Police Department and Fire Departments in the White Mountains with backpacks for transient Veterans. Backpacks include a blanket, toiletries, food and hygiene items. Each county is issued a different colored backpack to identify the area where the transient was first assisted. Fishers of Men for Veteran’s Ministries also works with the transient to find a shelter until housing is available.

Fishers of Men for Veteran’s Ministries also works with homebound Veterans and those needing medical care. This last year Fishers of Men built a ramp on one of the Veteran’s homes so that he could easily enter and exit his home in his wheelchair.
